Finding the Right Therapist
How do you know that you have found the right therapist?
You look at someone and say, "I wonder what they are like?"
What do they sound like?
Are they going to listen to me?
Are they going to understand what I am going through?
The Initial Search
* Initially searching for qualifications
*Initially searching for personality traits
*Searching for a guy or a girl
*Searching for people compliant with insurance companies
Engaging the Person
*You freak out about whether to call this stranger or send an email
*If you are an introvert, the email option may sound better
*If you are an extrovert, the phone call option may sound better
*You decide that the person meets your expectations
Insurance Company Drag
*Insurance companies are not all they are cracked up to be
*Everybody with whom your insurance company approves are not viable options due to lack of connection or inability to schedule an appointment
*You end up having to pay a huge deductible anyway
What is Out of Network and Why is it so Scary?
*Out of network means that you are covering the cost up front
*It also means that you get to choose who you meet with, not your insurance company
*Bonus, most people have deductibles that they have to meet with their insurance company- paying up front means that you are able to put the full cost of the session towards your deductible
*Most insurance companies will pay you back either in full or for most of the cost of the session
*No scary bills in the mail saying that you still owe more money- you the know the cost up front
