The Ins and Outs of Reiki

I'm sure you have heard of it. Or if you haven't, that's okay too. Reiki has been getting a lot of attention, and I wanted to explore it with you so that you can see if it might be a good resource for the future. 

Reiki Roots

Reiki is actually based in Japan. Practitioners identify your life force energy by placing their hands on strategic areas of your body. They do this to identify if your life force energy is low or high. 

If your energy life force is low, it usually means that you are sick or that your body is struggling with lots of stress. If your energy life force is high, it usually equates to being healthy and happy. 

The word Reiki is made up of two different Japan words. Rei means God's wisdom, and Ki means life force energy. So, Reiki means life force energy coming from God's wisdom. 

The founder of Reiki believes that the energy is given from God and promoting your energy means that you are living in harmony with others. 

Practitioners that use this form of healing also note that the person participating needs to be fully committed to their own healing, otherwise the results are not going to last. 

What to expect with Reiki

Sessions last between an hour to an hour and a half. 

You will be asked to lie down on a massage table, but if you have pain or discomfort doing so, practitioners are usually willing to accommodate your needs. 

One of the differences between a regular massage and Reiki is that you will be clothed during your Reiki experience. Usually for this experience, experts suggest that you wear loose fitting clothes so that you are comfortable. 

Because of the nature of the Reiki experience, you can opt for either light touch or no touch. Light touch indicates that you are willing to have your practitioner touch your hands or feet, or your practitioner will place their hands just a few centimeters above your body for the no touch. 

For your first session, expect to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early so that the practitioner can go through necessary paperwork and review what to expect during the session. 

If you end up falling asleep during the experience (no worries), experts state that you will get the full benefits of Reiki whether you are asleep or awake. 

You may feel a tingling sensation as the practitioner places their hands at different points on your body. Most everybody feels a sense of deep relaxation during the experience. 

Even with the deep relaxation, experts state that you should be able to drive after the experience. It is not the equivalent of sleep medication. 

Experts also recommend drinking plenty of water after the session is over. 

This may be a good option to check out, especially if the thought of some stranger putting their hands on you, freaks you out.
